What is Item Banking?

Item Banking refers to the development and management of a large pool of
high-quality test questions.  Items are treated as reusable objects, which allows you to more efficiently publish new test forms.  Items are stored with extensive historical metadata to drive validity.

Then what? Well, once you publish test forms, you can immediately deliver on our integrated digital assessment platform, print to paper, or export the items for delivery elsewhere.

Collaboratively Develop & Manage Large Item Banks

Automated Item Generation

Create item templates based on cognitive models developed by your subject matter experts. Define what is variable and what is held constant. Export for review before migration to your active item banking module.

Why AIG?

Research has shown that automated item generation can drastically increase the size of your item bank, enhancing security. Research also found that it increases item quality (discrimination statistics) because item writers think more effectively about the structure of the item.

Best Practice in Workflow Management: Kanban Boards

Define the “swimlanes” or columns/phases of your item review process.  Assign users to review items, based on custom review fields that you create.  Admins then manage items through the process, before being considered Live.  This ensures that only the highest quality items make it to the exam, and you have validity documentation of why.

Why Kanban?

The Kanban Board is regarded as one of the best approaches for project and task management. It is used by most software designed for those topics outside the assessment field – from Trello to Asana to JIRA – with good reason. This visual tracking of task progress and completion allows for more effective management, and our landmark platform allows you to apply this to the item banking process, driving team efficiency and item bank quality.

Customized Item Review

Users are shown a preview of the item, and all review fields that require their input, before they submit their assignment.  You can assign items ahead of time, and even send email notifications with due dates!

Why Kanban?

Items are not born perfect. They almost always require some editing. By ensuring that they go through stages of review, you provide a quality assurance pathway that enhances item quality.

Item banking is the foundation of the Test Development Cycle
